Prego Launches Connection Keeper to Capture Family Conversations
Prego, the renowned pasta sauce brand, has unveiled an innovative device called the Connection Keeper. This unique product is designed to record and preserve conversations that take place around the dinner table, encouraging families to engage in meaningful discussions without the interference of screens.
The Connection Keeper resembles an oversized lid for a pasta jar and has been developed in collaboration with StoryCorps, a nonprofit organization that aims to document and share the personal stories of Americans. Unlike many modern recording devices, the Connection Keeper operates offline, without AI, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth capabilities, ensuring a focus on real-time family interactions.
Planned for release on April 27, 2026, the Connection Keeper will be available for purchase online for $20. Each purchase includes not only the recording device but also a jar of Prego sauce, spaghetti noodles, and a deck of conversation prompt cards. However, only a limited number of less than 100 units will be made, making it a rare opportunity for interested families.
Prego’s mission with the Connection Keeper is to inspire families to create lasting memories through conversation at dinner, steering them away from the distraction of mobile devices. The device captures audio using dual microphones, recording in CD quality to a 16GB microSD card, allowing up to eight hours of recording time on a full charge.
Using the Connection Keeper is straightforward: simply place it in the center of the table and press a single button to begin recording. Once dinner concludes, families can easily transfer the recordings to a computer via USB-C. The recordings can be uploaded to a dedicated microsite established by StoryCorps, where they can be privately stored and accessed by the uploader. Users have the option to share these recordings with other StoryCorps users or even the public, including the possibility of archiving them within the Library of Congress.
The recordings are also accessible through a smartphone app, but Prego has intentionally designed the Connection Keeper to minimize the use of phones during mealtime. This is why the device lacks a screen—its purpose is to keep family members engaged with each other rather than with technology.
As the trend of technology encroaching on personal interactions continues, the Connection Keeper offers a refreshing approach to family bonding. By focusing on capturing conversations and memories rather than digital distractions, Prego hopes to enhance the quality of family time spent together.
In conclusion, the Connection Keeper represents a novel attempt to encourage families to rekindle the art of conversation during meals, making it a meaningful addition to the dining experience. With its limited availability and unique features, it could become a cherished tool for families wanting to document their shared moments.
